Story
This is my beautiful Nana when she was a little girl.
Nana was amazing, always there for us in every way possible, practically and emotionally.
Nana would share her amazing stories - when she was a little girl, her wedding day, the many Birthday's and Christmas's we all shared together. The memories are never ending.
It was amazing to reminisce and remember these wonderful precious memories together. Us as a family still do this together, we reminisce, we laugh, we cry, we remember the past.
Nana cannot.
Not by her own choice, not by our choice, but by Alzheimer’s choice.
Nana is living with Alzheimer’s.
She was amazing, she still is amazing. She is a beautiful person inside and out, but “Nana” as she used to be is lost. She is gone and will never return.
There is absolutely nothing my family and I can do to reverse this.
If you were to Google “What is Alzheimer’s”, you would find some of the following –
• memory loss
• cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily tasks and daily life.
• accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases.
• Alzheimer's worsens over time
• Alzheimer's has no current cure
Very factual. However, actually being with and watching a person you love with all your heart change and deteriorate, knowing there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it, and knowing with a heavy heart that it will only get worse, well, this is heart breaking.
I believe memories are precious and worth fighting for. We have all our wonderful amazing memories, I just wish Nana did too.
My family & I are doing a memory walk to raise as much money as we can for The Alzheimer’s Society so that hopefully one day, one day soon, “Alzheimer’s” is a thing of the past (see the pun there?!).
So myself and my family, The Alzheimer’s Society, everyone who has been effected by Alzheimer’s, and everyone who may be effected by Alzheimer’s, we ask you with our hand on our hearts if you would please donate to this worthy charity.
Thank You.
