Story

I am running in the Great North run with others to raise money for the Rebecca Dykes. She was tragically murdered in the Lebanon while doing important humanitarian work there. She was a great supporter of the Great North run and participated in it while she was alive. The money raised will go towards continuing the good causes which Becky passionately devoted her life towards.

Becky's murder was reported in the newspapers over Christmas. She was working for the department of International development. I remember the last time I spoke to her she told me how she was going to work in the Lebanon Embassy.

Rebecca Dykes was killed in Lebanon, on December 16, 2017, aged 30.

This page has been created by Rebecca’s family and friends, to raise funds for a new foundation in her name. This foundation will have the aim of continuing Rebecca’s humanitarian and stabilisation work for refugees and other vulnerable communities, with a particular focus on women’s empowerment and preventing violence against women.

The Princes Exchange Foundation is the in-house charitable fund of leading charities law firm Turcan Connell. Rebecca's charitable fund is a sub-fund of that fund.

About Rebecca:

Rebecca was compassionate, caring and committed to humanitarian causes. She worked tirelessly to make the world a kinder, fairer, safer and more stable place.

Most recently, she had undertaken pioneering work in Lebanon, for the UK Department for International Development, to improve the lives of refugees and impoverished Lebanese people, and help these vulnerable communities to become more peaceful and resilient.

Previously, she volunteered for VSO in Bahrain, worked on conflict and stabilisation issues across a range of sub-Saharan African countries, covered gender and conflict in Iraq, and worked on the stabilisation of Libya.

Your donations will help us build the better world that Rebecca believed in.
