Story

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with having Chiari Malformation, it is a relatively new and rare disease and can be life changing.

Chiari Malformation is a serious neurological disorder where the bottom part of the brain, the cerebellum, descends out of the skull and crowds the spinal cord, putting pressure on both the brain and spine causing many symptoms.

Chiari effects 1 in 1000 people. Most Chiari Malformations occur during fetal development. Much less commonly, Chiari Malformations can occur because of injury , infection or medical procedures.

It has had a impact on our lives and some days I don't know if I'm on my "head or my arse". I can have good and bad days, I can struggle with simple things such as not knowing how to turn the shower on or how to use a pepper mill, migraines, giddiness, short term memory, loss of voice, coordination problems and the list goes on...

We are taking part in a sponsored walk on 22nd September 2018, where all proceeds are going to being donated to Conquer Chiari. They are a charity which help raise awareness and support for Chiari patients and their families. As well as sponsor research into the disease.

If you can donate any amount towards the sponsored walk I would be eternally grateful. Without charities such as Conquer Chiari, we would know even less about this rare disease.
