I've raised £500 to Support Alzheimer’s Association and BIADS

Final Update!
As my previous video update mentioned, instead of the climb I opted to walk for the same number of hours I would have done if I was on the trek (21 hours in 3 days) To increase the challenge I weighted my backpack with 11lbs (that was just the snacks) and as much as possible wore an altitude face mask.
In the end I racked up 59 miles in 21 hours. I wanted to say a big thank you for your generous contributions. My grandparents were absolutely thrilled with how generous people have been and I’m sure both charities will be grateful for donations especially during this tough time.
Thanks
Becky

On 16th May 2020, we (me n Roché) will start a three day expedition up North Africa's highest mountain!
Our challenge sees us climbing and scrambling over the huge boulders and rocks of Mount Toubkal, standing at a whopping 4,167m! Although not technically climbing, the weather and terrain make this challenge extremely tough and a good level of fitness is essential.
This will definitely be a step up from our last forray into fundraising, which was Leeds 10k Fun Run. (We almost died lol!)
Our chosen charities hold personal weight as they help individuals and the family of those who suffer with Alzheimers and Dimentia. We will be completing the trek in honour of my (Becky) Grandad, Barry Shenton, who has been suffering from Alzheimers for the past six years.
This has been a difficult time for many within my family, most notedly my Nannan, Lillian. As the sole carer for my grandad, she has done a sterling job of displaying love, patience and self sacrifice. She is truly a sweetheart. Recently my Nan suffered a heart attack which lead to additional support being required in caring for my Grandad, specifically from my Dad and Aunty.
While he has never said anything, I am sure that this has been a difficult period of time for my Dad. As always, much like my Nan, he has been stoic in ’stepping up‘ during hard times. This has included my Nans hospitilisation and the steady decline in my Grandads memory, speech and independence.
Alzheimers truly is a cruel disease and I look forward to the time when nobody will have to suffer through it. Until then, fund raising can play a key role in supporting suffers and their families. The funds we raise will be split evenly between the following charities;
Alzheimers Association UK ~ On a national scale, as the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research, the Association is committed to accelerating the global progress toward methods of treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure. Currently, the Association is investing $167 million in more than 500 active best-of-field projects in 27 countries.
BIADS ~ at a local level, from their dedicated centre in Barnsley they provide support to those affected by dementia, their carers, families and friends by providing information, emotional support, social opportunities, meaningful activities and event.
My grandparents have been to many BIADS events, one of which is pictured below!
Your generous donations are much appreciated. Keep checking back for further updates!
If you can’t donate, that‘s ok! Please consider sharing the link to this page to raise awareness for our cause ❤️💙
Much love,
Becky + Roché
