Over 55% of the population lived below the poverty line, with almost 1 in 4 Lebanese living in extreme poverty even before accounting for the poverty impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the most vulnerable. With the deepening economic crisis, the World Food Programme estimates that 22% of Lebanese and 50% of Syrian refugees are food insecure, with the most vulnerable families no longer able to meet their most basic needs. With food prices soaring by more than 700% over the past two years, families now spend five times the minimum wage just on food.
In order to protect the most vulnerable, Bedayati is accelerating its efforts to help fight food insecurity. Through our Community Kitchen, we have been offering wholesome meals since June 2020 to those who need them the most in Beirut, providing over 43,250 meals offered so far.
