The number of people sleeping rough each night increased by 16% 2015-2016, and has seen an overall increase of 134% since 2010. Prebend Day Shelter - part of Bedford Concern for the Homeless and Rootless (BeCHaR) - aim to alleviate the struggle for those who are at their most desperate by providing food, medical aid, shelter and advice. This is no easy task, and running the shelter requires £589.04 daily.

To raise funds to keep the shelter running, some brave students from Bedford Modern School are spending a night sleeping rough to gain a perspective of the daily life of a homeless person, and to understand just how important shelters such as Prebend can be.
