Story

Do you ever look at the clock on the church in the village of Beer? Would you miss it if it ceased to work? What you may not be aware of, is the fact that, although it is situated on St Michael’s Church, the clock actually belongs to the village, and whilst the church organises access for servicing etc, it is the Parish Council that pays for the annual service. Unfortunately, the most recent service has shown that extensive work is now required to keep it running for the next hundred years or so, and it has been suggested that the clock face itself would also benefit from restoration.
The amount quoted to undertake all the work is £9,440.00 which neither the Beer Parish Council, nor St Michael's church can afford. The generosity of Beer village organisations and clubs have started us off with this appeal and the first £1,600.00 has been achieved. There is still a long way to go.
The clock did recently stop as the winding mechanism slipped. It has had a temporary repair, but without the full restoration it will reoccur.
Donations of any amount will be gratefully received. Please help us to restore our iconic clock in our wonderful fishing village of Beer in Devon.
