Disability support

Story

ngSafe Space is a youth group for teenagers and young people in the community with a learning disability. We want to create a space in the local community for you people with a learning disability where they can freely be themselves, feel encouraged and supported and build friendships and social skills. Teenagers and young people with a learning disability aren't currently being represented in the local community, with no groups or activities being offered specifically for them. Through Safe Space we would be catering for a huge need for a group to really embrace learning disability in the community and help these young people with independence and integration.

Our community needs to show more compassion towards young people with a learning disability and really see how important and valuable to our society they are. We fight massively for the rights for young people with a learning disability and want them to feel included in the community.

The age range of the young people that will be attending this group is roughly 12-19 years of age. This age group specifically is of great importance as it's during these years that young people with learning disabilities are learning important life skills to improve the quality of their future. It is vital that we, through Safe Space allow these young people to not feel isolated from the community.

Mental health support will also be offered to this group as we believe it is vital the community acts now to be proactive and fight against the mental health crisis that is happening increasingly in amongst young people with a learning disability in our local community.
