Earlier this year, I travelled on holiday to Gambia and met a dear friend.

His name is Alfie and he works currently as a tour guide, under self employment and leasing a vehicle- he accompanies tourists on their Gambia experience and shows them the real essence of the country.

To us, he became a dear friend and I have kept in touch with him and when I headed back there this month. There he was waiting for us at the airport and right until the end of our trip.

Alfie is not what you might first think when you imagine a Gambian unofficial guide. He is like a brother to me, my debit card broke in Gambia 2 days before coming home so I was without money- Alfie bought me drinks, drove me around to the best places in resort and even a meal so I could enjoy my holiday without having to worry I couldn't access any money.

Life in Gambia is simple, they don't have much. I want to show Alfie how he can really make the most of his great personality and interpersonal skills by sending him to work on a cruise ship! Alfie has never even seen a ship!

I have explained to him the hard work and commitment he will need. I have no doubt he will succeed and sought to find how to go about accessing a job like this from the tiny little country that he lives.

I've found out about it. At the tourism and hospitality centre in Gambia, there is a scheme in place where they are now sending young, educated Gambians out to the ships and the feedback they have had has been amazing- it's no surprise really, Gambians are the most friendly and genuine people you could EVER meet!

Alfie and I headed to the tourism institute on my recent trip to find out the procedure and everything looks perfect!

The funds required are for his processing and medical fees. I will be taking the funds personally to the centre.

Recruitment is beginning in December, and with your help... Alfie could be travelling the world and gaining amazing earnings to set up a whole new life by just April!
