Story
Hi my name is Ben and I am a 17 year old sixth form student. In July my school are taking 24 students on a mission trip with The Grassroots Trust in order to help young children living in extreme poverty in Tanzania. I have always tried to do what I can in the community taking part in many charity fundraisers throughout school and as being a member of the scouting organisation currently I am an explorer scout. This trip will take me halfway across the world on a 33 hour journey. I cannot wait to be able to help those in true need as I am personally more than thankful for my very fortunate upbringing I have had in a privileged country. This is not the case for children in underdeveloped countries such as Tanzania, where children can go uneducated and hungry.
I will be hands on and working directly with the children within the project in variety of ways:
* Upkeep and maintenance - painting the children's areas and making beds.
* Feeding programme - preparing and distributing the food and milk across the region
* Livestock - collection and delivery of chickens
* Interaction - Secondary school visits, playing sports with the children, conducting Grassroots period questionnaires, issuing blankets and water filters.
