Story

Ben and Dan are raising £500 to support Breakthrough T1D, the leading charity dedicated to funding research, advocacy and support for people living with type 1 diabetes, while also celebrating the life of Dr David Hallam through donations to Rosemere Cancer Foundation and St Michael’s on Wyre Church Bell and Clock Fund.

Type 1 diabetes is a cause that is particularly close to Ben’s heart. Ben was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in May 2001 at just eight years old and has been living with the condition ever since. For more than 25 years, managing blood glucose levels, insulin therapy and the daily challenges that come with Type 1 diabetes have been part of everyday life. Through this challenge, we hope to raise awareness and support the incredible work of Breakthrough T1D as they fund life-changing research, improve treatments and work towards a future without Type 1 diabetes.

Following David’s courageous battle with cancer, we wanted to give something back to causes that support patients, families and local communities.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation helps fund vital equipment, treatment, research and patient care across Lancashire, making a real difference to people facing cancer and their loved ones.

We have also chosen to support St Michael’s on Wyre Church Bell and Clock Fund, a cause that was important to David and his family. The church sits at the heart of the local community, and funds raised will help preserve and maintain its historic bells and clock for future generations.

By supporting these causes, we hope to honour David’s memory and continue the positive impact he had on so many people’s lives.

On 25th July 2026, we will take on the Lakeland 50, one of the toughest challenges either of us has ever attempted. The race covers 50 miles (80 kilometres) through the heart of the Lake District, following a demanding route of trails, mountain passes and valleys from Dalemain, near Ullswater, to Coniston.

With over 3,000 metres (10,000 feet) of ascent along the way, the event will test our physical endurance, mental resilience and determination from start to finish.

These three causes are all close to our hearts, and we would be incredibly grateful for any donation, big or small.

Thank you for helping us support vital causes, fund important research, and remember a truly wonderful man. ❤️
