Story

Delivering safe anaesthesia wherever it is needed

Can you imagine a world without anaesthesia?

Around 5 billion people worldwide lack access to surgical and anaesthetic care, mainly in the developing world. Many die or are left severely disabled or in pain as a result. Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide ensures the benefits of anaesthesia are available wherever needed so that patients can receive the treatment they need, safely and painlessly. In developing countries hospitals are few and far between. As a result, people may have to make long hazardous journeys to reach them, often when they are desperately ill. The hospitals are over-crowded and poorly equipped. Without anaesthesia emergency operations cannot be performed and many patients do not survive, especially women in childbirth and children.

The charity Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide saves lives by providing vital anaesthetic equipment, training and support to people in need around the globe. They work closely with local hospitals and staff to ensure that they supply precisely what they need.

Suitable equipment

The sophisticated anaesthetic equipment used in Britain is unsuitable for most hospitals in developing countries, where oxygen and electricity are unreliable and machines are not maintained for lack of skilled engineers.

Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide provides only appropriate anaesthetic equipment that is safe, effective and inexpensive to use in any situation
