Story

Benji is an 8 year old Staffy who lives with his very elderly owners Dorren & Albert. He was dumped in a crate outside a rescue centre with his 5 siblings at only 8 weeks old and as soon as his owners saw him, they knew they wanted to give him a loving and happy home to grow up in.

When Benji reached 5 months old, he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia due to being confined in a small cramped crate for the first 8 weeks of his life. Benji had his operation to correct his hip and life was lovely.

Since January 2019, Benji has been struggling to walk, in a severe amount of pain and not loading weight onto his back legs so he shuffles along on his bottom. After nunerous visits to the vets trying different painkillers and anti inflammatories, Benji has been diagnosed with extensive cruciate ligament damage, and the only option is to have both of his knees operated on to fuse the bones together to hopefully make his life happy and so he can enjoy his walks again.

Benji’s owners want to do everything possible to give him a life that is pain free and happy but at 90 years old and on a minimum statutory pension, they are struggling to find the £6000 cost to operate on both of his legs.

Benji is insured but the insurance will only cover up to £1,500 and Benji’s medications, sedations and x-rays so far are coming in at nearly £800 so there is very little left with ongoing bills for his pain killers.

Benji is an absolutely lovely dog with a big heart and a big personality and he means the world to his owners. It is killing them knowing they cannot afford the cost of his treatment as he is in so much pain.

Benji’s owners would be so very grateful for any donations received, no matter how small, it all adds up to give Benji the operation he so desperately needs in order to live a healthy and happy life.
