Story

Hello my name is Benjy, I am studying A levels at the Warriner school in Bloxham.I am participating in the Gold Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. As part of the D of E I am currently helping at the Community Fridge held in the Banbury Mosque and felt that I would like to do more voluntary work so have organised to travel to Costa Rica and take part in a range of voluntary community projects. I have decided to challenge myself more than I have for my silver and bronze awards and to go outside of the UK. Many of the trips are of a more self-indulgent nature, I want something more than this as I would like to contribute something back to people less fortunate than myself.

I shall be working alongside paid workers, carrying out maintenance and cleaning work as well as working within an orphanage for children who are waiting for adoption, playing, and supporting the children. Not only is this exciting for me, but it would also be fantastic to help people who need it.

This is just one part of the trip as there will also be an opportunity for me to take part in my own enrichment through travel and learning the culture of Costa Rica and to show my independence in looking after myself whilst on this extraordinary adventure.

I must fund this trip myself, so I am raising money to pay for each part, flights, accommodation, activities, etc.

My goal is to raise £2000 to be able to go. I work part-time as a lifeguard; I am working extra shifts to fund as much as I can. I would really appreciate it if you can help in any way to get me a little closer to helping people and to broadening my life experience.

Thank you. Benjy
