Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.
My name is Ben Sewell. I was diagnosed with a rare form of liver disease (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis - PSC) with no known cause or cure. I was eventually placed on the liver transplant waiting list and amazingly after 9 months I received a suitable donor liver and underwent a successful transplant; late September 2016.
My first goal is simple: Pay what I owe. I do owe so many people and organisations so very much, my life for one. Being able to see my wife and son again, is another.
My second goal is harder: Raise awareness for PSC and NHS Organ Donation. Get more people signed up as donors; as the numbers are woeful compared to those in need. Dying before you make it off the list, a reality for so many families, just should happen.
Here is a bit of information on the charities etc
Raising money and awareness for the British Liver Trust (https://www.britishlivertrust.org.uk), NHS Organ Donation (https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk) and PSC Support (http://www.pscsupport.org.uk) through various fundraising activities throughout late 2016 and 2017.
Here are the events that I will be taking part in (will be kept updated):
Competing in the 2017 British Transplant Games
July 2017, North Lanarkshire
Addenbrookes Transplant Games Team (http://www.atgt.co.uk)
Cycling - 5km Time Trial
Cycling - 10km Road Race
'Ard Moors Enduro
September 2017, Lordstone Country Park
Enduro MTB - 4-5hours (up and down mountains)
5 X Downhill Stages
I will be adding at least 2 further events (including 1 x 50+ mile road event and 1 x MTB trail/downhill event) to this calendar, once I can find the right event - it must be suitably difficult otherwise it will be boring!
