Story
This December, Bentley Project Management staff will tackle the 25-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough within 12 hours. We are doing this to raise money for the life-prolonging treatment of Miles, in his battle with terminal cancer. We have set a target of £3,000 to help contribute to Miles’ treatment.
Please read Miles' story, written by his father Keith:
“Our wonderful 21-year-old Son Miles was working hard to complete his degree and looking forward to a future in the film and media industry he loves, when out of the blue in December 2017 he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). Remaining brave and optimistic throughout a long period of chemotherapy, Miles has spent most of the past year (including his 21st birthday) in hospital. In the Summer, things started to look more positive – he went into remission and was preparing for a stem cell transplant. However, the leukaemia returned before the transplant could take place. All lines of conventional treatment have now been exhausted and Miles’ condition has been diagnosed as terminal.
Miles’ medical consultant has identified a drug, currently unavailable in the UK, which offers hope. Still in its early stages for the treatment of AML, it has been trialled and shows genuine promise. We hope that, at very least, this treatment may buy Miles some time. There may even be a chance of getting Miles back to the point of remission so that we could try a stem cell transplant again.
Unfortunately, this medication is unavailable on the NHS for the treatment of AML and needs to be privately funded at a cost of over £6,000 per month.
As parents, we are fighting to give our son a chance to extend his life, giving him the opportunity to do the things that are important to him. If you can afford to donate or help in any way towards the cost of Miles’ treatment, your contributions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.”
This is a cause which is very close to our hearts at Bentley Project Management. The Challenge will be not be easy, as conditions in December are unpredictable and the short days mean that we will be doing much of the route in the dark. This is nothing compared to the battle which Miles and his family have been fighting for the last year. We hope that you can contribute to our goal, giving Miles and his family the gift of time.
