Story

Music of all kinds helps many of us cope. This includes people with mental illness.

By organising our electronic music night in Cambridge, we are gathering people who may feel passionate about the same type of music that is not well represented in Cambridge. And because the organisers, my friend Daniel (PhD in Chemistry) and myself, Yuri (final-year medical student), also feel passionate about mental health, we would like to donate the profits from our unexpectedly successful event sequel 'Berlin-Bound' (April 2019 and February 2020) to the Cambridge Psychotherapy Assistance Trust (CAPT).

We have already raised from ticket sales £500 and we would like to take this up to £1000 - which is the equivalent of one person's psychotherapy for an entire year.

CAPT supports specific target populations - single mothers, students (especially graduate students), caring professionals and those with a low income - to have access to psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is one of the two mainstays of treatment of mental illness and has the same strong evidence base as medications - and perhaps work at a level closer to treating the root cause of mental illness. As a final-year medical student conducting clinics in a general practice in Cambridge currently, I face the burden and unmet needs of mental illness every day. Waiting times for psychotherapy are from months to years. Charities like CAPT can help those most in need to have therapy timely, when they need it most. CAPT is also able to let us know where the funds go. It is of small calibre - but significant, specific, local and with tangible benefit, which is what we wanted to support with our event.

Help us with our cause, whether you have already gotten a ticket or cannot make it to our event but would like to support it - even the smallest gesture will matter if we all work together!
