I've raised £450 to To buy an incubator for sick, injured and young hedgehogs in the care of Bernies Hedgehog Rescue, Durham.

Bernies Hegehog Rescue is run from the home of Bernie Carre, she never turns away a hedgehog in need. Bernie cares for the hedgehogs and returns them to good health before releasing them back into the wild. Bernie is a lovely, caring lady who sacrifices so much for the hedgehogs in her care and she relies solely on the generousity of her friends, family and hedgehog lovers.
I found a very sick hedgehog and was so lucky to have Bernie take him in and by some miracle she nursed him back to health. he was released successfully back to the wild.
One of the most important pieces of equipment to help these vulnerable little creatures is an incubator. Bernie currently relies on hot water bottles and electric heat mats. The warmth from an incubator can mean the difference between life and death especially for very small hoglets that arrive throughout the year. Hedgehogs once prevalent in our gardens are down in numbers and the decline is considerable, in the 1950’s there were approx 30 million hedgehogs in the UK compared to around 1 million now. Bernie is passionate about the hedgehogs in her care and it is evident that every hedgehog returned to the wild is very important to prevent further decline in numbers.
