I've raised £2500 to help keep Lincoln’s historic Drill Hall open

I recently enjoyed watching my granddaughter perform in the New Youth Theatres production of the Addams Family. This occasion brought back the memories of many years ago when the Drill Hall was THE place where all the young boys and girls used to meet up on Saturday nights for the dancing with the great band that always played on those nights. In 1946, I began to go dancing regularly at the Drill Hall despite my mother’s wishes! At that time, the entrance was on broadgate and the girls used to rush in to hang up their coats and check on their makeup. The Drill Hall was full of young men from the nearby aerodromes, and was even attended by the American soldiers when they were in England during World War Two. Many of the young girls were entranced by the American soldiers and their uniforms, and at least five of my friends eventually married them! The building itself has changed much since those golden days, but visiting again after 71 years gives me pleasure because visiting brings back so many happy memories. I should hate to see that it had been demolished or shut down, as I hope that people continue to enjoy the Drill Hall as I did as a teenager. Myself, the now old lady, still keeps the memories close to my heart and therefore I wish to give a donation to keep the joy of the Drill Hall alive. This was the place where I met the man who went on to become my husband of 69 years. In happy memories. I would like to ask you to donate. Thank you.
