I plan to volunteer in a small Ghanaian community which is deprived of access to basic healthcare and medicine. In the major cities of Ghana, such as Accra, medical care is fairly good and accessible relative to other African nations. However, once you leave the major cities, the standard drops considerably and there is a real shortage of trained medical professionals to work in these communities and provide basic healthcare services. I will be placed in a small rural clinic where I'll work closely with the local staff. I will be working from 7am until the afternoon providing medical care and guidance to those in need. There is no electricity or running water; this will not be a luxury experience. The majority of Ghanians in rural towns do not have any medical cover, and will often rely on volunteers for healthcare.

I will also be looking into taking 'out of date' medical supplies, such as dressings, syringes and bandages etc, over with me. So to my medical friends: please donate supplies that are still usable that the NHS would throw away!

The money raised here will go towards the cost of accommodation, mosquito nets, medical supplies, the cost to volunteer with an organisation, and flights. I really appreciate any donation, small or large!
