Story

On Sunday 16th September 2018 I will be taking on a zip line challenge in sponsorship of two great charities. The zipline runs from the top of a 210m high chimney at the former Littlebrook Power Station in East London.

The first charity is the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton; a wonderful charity who provide specialist palliative care services for South Northamptonshire, in addition to a wide range of other services, who wish to create a new woodland walk for their patients - https://www.justgiving.com/cynthiaspencer

The second charity is the Firefighters Charity as they have kindly set up the zipline to raise funds for the amazing work they do - https://www.justgiving.com/firefighterscharity

The funding raised will be split with 75% going to the Cynthia Spencer Hospice and 25% going to the Firefighters Charity. Please sponsor generously to help them to continue to provide these valuable services.

I am undertaking this challenge on behalf of my employer, Wilby Tree Surgeons Limited , who will be supporting and encouraging me to reach the target we have set and will be managing this page on my behalf.

About the Zipwire

In 2016, thrillseekers took flight over London’s skies on a 52 metre-high zip line above the River Thames. The line, which was 1,480ft (450m) long, was installed by the London Fire Brigade raising over £1 million:

These incredible gentle(persons) are planning a zip line four times the height in 2019 to raise even more.

The insurers have asked for dummies to test the rig on 16 September 2018!

This zip line will be from the top of the Chimney at the former Littlebrook Power Station, landing at the end of the far jetty on the photo at the base of the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. The initial inspection took 1hr for the team to climb the 21 storeys inside the chimney.

Tritax, Bericote, KAM and Brown and Mason have shown amazing support to break through the red tape to make this happen:

Jonathan Maher, Alex Hadden and Piers Ridout will be undertaking the challenge on their behalf.

Piers (KAM) and Lee (Bericote) have kindly allowed me to be the 4th "Test Dummy" in order that Wilby Tree Surgeons Limited can help raise funds for both the Firefighters Charity and a charity close to our hearts, the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton.

I am proud to be undertaking this challenge, please help make this worthwhile. It is easy to donate, much harder to ask for donations - any contribution will be thanked for personally.

To put this challenge in perspective:

Nelsons Column is 52m tall,

The Statue of Liberty is 98m tall,

Blackpool Tower is 158m tall,

The Gherkin, London is 180m tall,

Canary Warf, is 230m tall.

I will have a go-pro on my helmet and will be sharing this challenge on the Wilby Tree facebook, twitter and linkedin pages.
