Story
My name is Beth Edwards and I have been selected as one of 40 pupils from Cowbridge Comprehensive to visit the Goedgedacht Trust in South Africa in July 2019.
The Goedgedacht Trust aims to bring about meaningful change by encouraging people to see the world in a different light. Their Pathway out of Poverty programme has four key threads: Education, Health, Personal Development and Care for the Planet. (https://www.goedgedacht.org/about-us/our-vision/).
These core threads result in real, positive change by, for example:
• educating children from rural backgrounds helping them to develop into healthy, self- confident people who will be of benefit to their communities.
• showing people lasting ways of building their own dreams in order to break the seemingly endless cycle of poverty.
• providing actual support to help local communities build on their strengths empowering them to survive independently and not relying on continued charity
I think the Goedgedacht Path gives people and their children a chance to dream of a life without hunger and a positive future. This trip will allow me to spend 10 days working as part of the Trust: taking part in a range of initiatives from well-building to education. This is a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity for me to try to make a difference by participating in campaigns I genuinely believe in.
I need to raise a minimum of £1000 towards the cost of the trip and I am also very keen to raise public awareness of the charity as their work deserves as much support as possible.
If you are able to support my trip by way of a contribution I would be very grateful. In return, after my visit I would provide your company with feedback on the difference your support has made to the Trust, helping you to better understand the difference that this Trust is making to real people and real lives.
