On June 10th 2019 I will be volunteering for 4 weeks in Bali with SLV Global. I was originally due to fly out to Sri Lanka on the 13th of May, but due to recent developments my placement has moved to Bali. The aim of this trip is to not only take part in a life changing experience, but to raise awareness of mental health issues and provide support in areas such as Bali and wider Indonesia. Focus within the mental health care system is placed on pharmaceutical remedies only, with many lacking the imperative support needed to heal and progress, due to this lack of psychological support. SLV intend on introducing behavioural therapies and interventions to Balinese healthcare workers in order to create a more psychological focused approach to the mental health care system. This is done every year, with hundreds of volunteers flying out from all over the world month after month, along with other locations including Sri Lanka and India.

The money raised for this trip will help in funding the Balinese family, who will be opening up their home to allow myself and many others to live throughout the duration of this 4-week trip. This money will also help SLV themselves fund trips like mine, allowing us to make this small yet positive difference towards a better future for many communities through engaging individuals in the positive effects of psychological treatment that they would not normally receive.

The placement itself with SLV Global costs a total of £1700, which is what I am aiming to receive in order to go. The flights and essential vaccinations needed are not included in this price, therefore any donations or contributions are greatly appreciated.
