Story

Hello!

Earlier this year, myself and a team of others from various faith based organisations travelled from Leeds to Hunedoara, Romania, to take part in Salt & Light Week. This is a week of community outreach projects organised by the Bethel Humanitarian Association, an organisation working to increase the life chances of severely deprived children and families living in slum conditions and social housing in the Romanian city of Hunedoara, many of who have heartbreaking stories, and to stop the cycle of poverty repeating itself in the future generations. Romania is a developing country, which has very little in the way of social support so many families struggle along in below par or makeshift housing. With a severe lack of opportunities, it is very difficult to break the cycle of poverty.

Although this is a faith based organisation, the primary aim and desire is to love and serve the community all year round through the centre, which provides among other things free housing, dental care, supports adults with disabilities and provides a community Nursery. The centre supports slum communities through providing materials for their houses, food parcels and offers of housing.

As I'd already signed up to do a 10k (challenging myself to beat my previous time!), I thought it would also be a great opportunity to try and raise a few pennies for this organisation to encourage them and assist with their vision and the wonderful work they do all year round.

If you'd like to find out more about the organisation, you can do so via it's webpage - http://www.betelccb.ro/

Thank you for your generosity! Xx
