    Story

6 weeks ago we were an average family, mum dad and two beautiful daughters. A bombshell was about to land in our laps that we were totally unprepared for. My husband Tony had felt unwell for a couple of weeks, putting this down to medication he was on, he saw the GP and took a couple of weeks off work. Fearing after he had a fall that he had a stroke, we went to the hospital in an ambulance. Once there we were told that there was no sign of a Stroke, feeling elated but apprehensive we waited on the Dr's every word. After a rushed MRI and CT scan we were told the heartbreaking news that he had cancer, knowing family and friends who had experienced this horrible disease, we were hopeful that treatments would be available and we agreed we were ready for the fight of our lives. We were not prepared for the biggest blow, that came 2 weeks later, that the cancer had started in his kidney, spread to his lung and nodes and now had reached his brain. It was so hard to take in as he had only been unwell for a couple of weeks, and I know after telling friends and family they were as shocked too. We have both worked since we were 16, had manual jobs and often talked about how we would spend our retirement together, doing all the things we had put on hold when the children came along, not visiting far off lands, just travelling round the British Isles in a little camper van, stopping for cream teas and icecreams and watching sunrises and sunsets ( soppy I know). The visit to see the Oncologist was nerve wracking and we discussed the need to know everything, the good and the bad. There are treatments he can have but due to the fact this is a stage 4 kidney cancer these can only alleviate symptoms and try to extend his life, then came the question that we all fear the answer to, how much time do we have left? When I heard the words six months, my world was shattered ( 6-18 to be exact, based on an average). We are now facing an unknown future where I will lose my husband, my girls will lose their dad, a mother and father will lose their son and the list goes on. Im sure you know someone who has been in this exact position, as horrible as it is. Tony always hated his vegetables but we have been reading up on all research about cancer and what he needs to put into his body to help keep him well and try to stave off the cancer for a while. This man is living on greens, high PH water, juicing fruits and vegetables and taking supplements and herbs needed. A few days ago, he started radiotherapy and then we go onto biological therapy, one tablet a day until it stops working or the cancer gets worse. I thought long and hard about setting up the page as I was brought up in an era where you worked for what you need and save if you can't afford it, until you can. Time is not our friend in this battle and we plan on it being the fight of all fights. So after this long story what am I asking for; any donations you want or can give to help us, we need to make memories, we need to be together. I am his main carer and need to take time off from work to do that, which means very little money coming in. We have said after radiotherapy that we will take any treatment options including clinical trials available, most likely we will have to travel away from home to take part in these, thus incurring costs. There is a fruit in Australia that is showing good results in killing cancer cells, so if we can last out maybe this could be an option for us! There are herbal therapies out there that we want to try to utilise that we can not get through our GP. Having a healthy diet doesn't come cheap, I have been making meals from scratch, even at Aldi prices this bumps up food costs, luckily we have been inundated with veg from our kind neighbours and friends which has helped a lot, but as the seasons change this is not going to be an option. I have seen a water jug that highers the PH of water ( which helps to fight cancer) but this cost a £100 and the cartridges are £30 a time and the list goes on. I plan if I get enough money to buy a small cheap camper so that we can see some of those sunsets and cream teas, I know we could stay in hotels but where's the adventure in that.
