Story
Hi,
I'm Beverley Goose, the Lead Nurse for Palliative care at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
I've worked as a nurse for many years now and I have a particular passion for caring for patients with dementia. It can be an incredibly cruel disease for both the patients and their families and carers. Even the smallest changes can sometimes provide a great relief and comfort to our patients though and I am fascinated and thrilled with the increased research into ways in which we can benefit and improve their quality of life.
I'm not an experienced climber but along with my husband Ian, we completed the Gran Paradiso last year. This September we're setting out to reach the summit of Mont Blanc - something which fills me with both excitement and dread at the same time! It's our biggest ambition yet and the terrain is particularly tough so we're going to need to use everything we've got to get to the top.
Dementia has affected almost everyone I know in one way or another and it's something we don't yet have a cure for. If we can keep using innovative ways to relieve the symptoms and give more support to families and carers then I think we should do those things. I want to raise money for dementia care and would be really grateful if you're able to show your support by sponsoring me in my quest. I will be thankful for even the smallest donation and will keep you posted on my progress!
