Story

Welcome to Beverley and Paul’s Just Giving sponsor page. On 7th October 2018 we are taking part in the Maidenhead Rotary club’s annual 13 mile boundary walk. We are hoping to raise money to help with a project to get fresh water to a school and small village in Tanzania called Kongwa. Some of you may remember that last year we were lucky enough to visit this town and see first-hand the problems the local people and school children face on a daily basis.

We take turning on a tap, or flushing the toilet for granted, but villages in Tanzania, for the main, do not have this luxury. Many have to walk miles each day to find water and then carry it back home in large containers. Despite the water issues and having very little everyone we met during our visit welcomed us with open arms and were genuinely happy to see us. The visit left a lasting impression on us and now we want to do something to help those we now consider friends.

Our friend Barbara spent her childhood in this town and has since spent many years helping the people of Kongwa. Last year money she raised enabled a new toilet block to be built which included disabled facilities. To make these facilities more hygienic she now needs to get a reliable source of water. There are ways to locate water sources and drill wells in the area but it is an expensive task so all the money we raise will go to this project.

Visit Barbara's web page to see the work she does for the "Mnyakongo School Project": http://kongwaconnected.org/
