Story

On the 25th May 2018 my beautiful daughter Afrika lost hope with her mental health struggles and died by suicide- Its hard to explain the devastation of losing someone so close by suicide and the impact it had and still has on those that that loved her dearly - Afrika waa failed by statutory mental health services and two health trusts in Leeds failed their duty of care to Afrika - Since Afrikas death we have campaigned for improved mental health services especially for those transitioning from young persons services to adults - - I was told that Afrika didn't meet the criteria for adults services and that she wasnt ill enough to access care , we were fortunate to be able to get private counselling for Afrika but this alone wasnt enough - i am eternally grateful to family and friends that have stood by me and underrtook so many physical challenges to raise funds so young people in Rothwell and surrounding areas are able to access timely help and not be stuck on a waiting list -

On May 18th 2024 we will cellebrate Afrikas life and legacy for other young people to reach out for help and to empower parents to challenge services and fight for the right care at the right time for their children - Our team will be undertaking a 52 mile bike ride from Kirkstall Dock to Skipton and back on the canal route

Big thank you from the bottom of my heart to the following riders taking part - you are stars 💜💜💜
