Story
My name is Esther and my son Aiden was diagnosed with ASD when was 3 years old. I remember sitting in the family room as the community ped talked about Aidens lack of social interaction, communication and imaginative play meaning he had a diagnosis of ASD. I also remember that although she didn’t subject me to they speech about what Aiden will or won’t achieve (yes, believe it or not they will comment on a 3 year olds potential) she didn’t really give us any guidance or help, with regards what this all meant and what wecould do for our boy. It was a case of heres Aidens report and good luck! There was of course a local authority course but that had a 6 month waiting list!
Luckily I have a great family and it was infact my godmother who introduced me to an auntie who had done the Son Rise program with her nephew which meant I gain the support we all need following diagnosis. I will be forever thankful for those who have supported us on our journey. However, i know the road for others hasn‘t been as blessed. Acknowledging this I started my charity Beyond Diagnosis, with the purpose being that we often free Autism Awareness Workshops for parents and carers.
Thankfully my employer supported our first round of fundraising during Autism Awareness Week and we raised £1,000! With this money we have been able to offer our first 4 part ASD Awareness Workshops! The following link isfor the workshops as advertised on eventbrite Autism Awareness Workshops
The fantastic feedback we have had and the fact that we have 40 candidates booked on our first workshop demonstrates what we thought....our local community are crying out for this support.
We have already raised another £112 at a carboot yesterday and I will be running at Northamptons Colour Rush next Sunday. If you can support us or just sponsor me for the run, any donation will be great recieved.
Beyond Diagnosis has its own Facebook page and you are welcome to join and keep in touch with our progress!
Thanks for your interest 😊
