Story
On Sunday 27 September 2026, I will be running the Ealing Half Marathon to raise money for Soch Care.
This will be my first half marathon and, at 13.1 miles, the longest distance I have ever run.
My commitment began at the Foundxrs Club HIStory event, where Harj Gahley spoke openly about his personal experience and the work he is undertaking through Soch Care to help people and families affected by addiction-related harm, mental health stigma and hidden suffering within South Asian communities.
These serious issues are often hidden by stigma, shame and a reluctance to ask for help. Harj’s willingness to use his own experience to help others - and to create culturally sensitive, non-judgemental spaces in which people can seek support - made a real impression on me.
At the end of his speech, in a room of more than 50 Foundxrs Club members, I raised my hand and committed to raising money for Soch Care through a run. I have therefore entered the Ealing Half Marathon and will spend the coming weeks preparing to complete a distance I have never attempted before.
The money raised will help Soch Care deliver:
1. Soch Circle monthly community meetups, providing safe and non-judgemental spaces for people affected by gambling, alcohol, drugs, mental health challenges and family pressures;
2. Awareness workshops within community, faith and local-authority settings;
3. Early-help conversations and signposting for individuals and families who may not know where to turn; and
4. Culturally sensitive outreach materials and resources.
The purpose is to reach people earlier—before silence turns into crisis.
My initial target is to raise £1,000. Every contribution, large or small, will help Soch Care reach more people and families. If we achieve the target early, we will keep going and aim even higher.
Soch Care is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under charity number 1214463. As its official JustGiving charity profile is currently being established, this fundraiser is being run through my personal crowdfunding page. All net funds released to me by JustGiving will be transferred to Soch Care, and I will publish confirmation of the final amount transferred.

Thank you for supporting me, Harj and Soch Care. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would also be greatly appreciated.
