Story

I am the chairperson for the Bursledon, Hamble and Hound Dementia Action Group, as a group we are all local to the area and all have one thing in common, which is to spread awareness for those living with dementia. As a group we have been running for 18 months and in that time we have held 5 dementia friendly tea dances, been to the last 2 DEMFEST in Romsey, shared a pitch at the pumpkin festival and we received a grant from Healthwatch Hampshire which enabled us to hold a tea dance that covered the whole of Hampshire and it was a huge success. Every penny we receive goes straight back into whatever event we have coming up.

I have been chairperson for this group since April 2016 and I have loved every minute of it, meeting lots of different people some with dementia and some without. I have a great team behind me as well and the success of the group wouldn't be without us all.

The reason why I am doing the Great South Run is that my sister challenged me to it after she completed it last year. In January I joined Slimming World and it was then that I started running. I never ran long distances only short ones, walking has never been a problem but running was never on my agenda. Since January I have ran 2 10k races and I am out running a couple of times a week. As I am so passionate about my Dementia Action Group I wanted to raise money for the group so please dig deep and help this very worthy cause.
