Story

100 Days of Big Ocean

Big Ocean is the world's first Hard of Hearing K-POP group, which debuted on April 20th, coinciding with the Day Of People With Disabilities in South Korea. July 29th marks 100 days since their debut and their fans (PADO, which means 'wave' in Korean) have chosen to fundraise to commemorate this milestone.

Big Ocean, consisting of members Chanyeon, Hyunjin, and Jiseok, are paving the way in the K-POP industry for disabled idols and fans as well as setting an example for accessibility and how it can be used within the music space. Many K-POP fans have chosen to support Big Ocean because for the first time, they are seeing disability representation and feel seen and understood, even if their disabilities are different. Big Ocean have shared how they long to bridge the gap between disabled and non-disabled individuals, which is something we rarely see in the music industry.

As a group, you can expect us to continue pushing boundaries and challenging stereotypes in the music industry. We’ll be working hard to deliver meaningful music and performances that resonate with our fans, while also advocating for greater inclusivity and representation in K-POP.

To honour their 100 days since debut, Pado have chosen to fundraise for Gallaudet University, Gallaudet University, a university based in Washington D.C who provides education for the deaf and hard of hearing.

It has been the educational, political, social, and economic engine of the deaf and signing community on a national and global scale for more than 150 years. This is the biggest university in the US specially organized for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Big Ocean believe education to be important and want to emphasise how serious it is. Youngest member, Jiseok, was inspired to become an idol after his own school received a big donation from BTS's RM. Inspired by this, Big Ocean wish to become someone who can make the pathway for the next generation to follow suit, which in turn inspired us to create a donation in their honour.

Big Ocean have given their fans something that is irreplacable: visibility. We can never thank them enough, but PADO vows to work alongside Big Ocean with raising awareness and working to make a change. Our fundraising efforts are just one of the many ways we intend to do this.
