Story
Bisley to Bloemfontein Challenge
The England Rifle Team is travelling to South Africa and Kenya in early 2022 to compete in their overseas target rifle championships.
When a team is selected to represent England abroad, whilst very enjoyable, the tour is entirely self-funded and will cost each individual member in the region of £4-5k. Any donation, however small, will help towards some of the costs of touring to ensure that the best athletes can represent our country rather than just those who can afford to.
The Challenge
The Team have embarked on a Strava challenge titled ’Bisley to Bloemfontein’ where they are attempting to cover the distance from Surrey to Bloemfontein and back via Kenya, totalling 17,122.4 miles! Team members sporting activities range from running, walking, cycling and swimming.
To make it an even more worthwhile cause, the team members have selected 2 charities to share the proceeds of their fundraising challenge. We have chosen a 'home' UK based charity and an 'away' African based charity', recommended by our shooting friends in Kenya.
All proceeds will be split equally between the three causes.
Challenge Update: Circumference of the Earth
We finished the B2B challenge in February 2021. Due to the tour being postponed a year, one enthusiastic team member suggested an even bigger follow up mission. To continue supporting our charities we have decided to carry on with a new fitness goal covering the 'Circumference of the Earth'
25,000 miles and counting....!
Refuge
Refuge provides specialist support to women, children and some men escaping domestic violence and other forms of violence. Since lockdown began, calls and contacts to their National Domestic Abuse Helpline have rocketed by around 66%.
On any given day Refuge supports more than 6,000 clients, helping them rebuild their lives and overcome many different forms of violence and abuse; for example domestic violence, sexual violence, so-called ‘honour’-based violence, human trafficking and modern slavery, and female genital mutilation.
They tailor their support to suit individual needs and run a range of services, including refuges, community-based projects, culturally-specific services, services for children and support for women going through the criminal justice system.

The African Girl Foundation
Kenya has long been challenged by economic stagnation and a lack of access to education. Statistics show that 50.1% of Kenya’s population is under 18 year. A rapidly growing concern is the alarming rate at which young girls are dropping out of school.
The African Girl Foundation mission is to empower girls and women and reclaim the dignity that poverty denies them. Every school girl deserves access to safe and hygienic sanitary products. Reusable sanitary kits are the answer to this severe problem. Sanitary care and protection plays a vital role in keeping girls in school. It teaches them to care for their bodies themselves, drastically reducing dependency on men.
