Story
This year we aim to raise as much money as possible to help fund vital inpatient services at two incredibly important hospitals.
Both hospitals played a crucial role in giving me back my life and the road to my independence. Without them my life would be far more different than it is
In July this year I suffered from bacterial Enchepalitis. I walked into the hospital with what I thought was a migrane, and woke up a week later a completely different person. When i woke up I couldn't walk or talk, I couldn't stand or even carry out my own personal care. I couldn't wipe my own ass!
I spent 2 and a half months in hospital. Away from everything I knew and loved. Away from my beautiful girls. Most of that stay was at the George Sharp Unit in Fife. Everyday I was put through intensive therapy. Speech, physio, OT and more. I've never worked so hard for anything in my life. They gave me my body back. Well as much as possible. Enough that I was able to go home, look after myself and my girls and get back to training.
3 months after I was home I ended up back as an inpatient. This time at Quarriers Epilepsy centre. Enchepalitis has left me with epilepsy. Which was treated with some extremely potent anti epileptic drugs. The drugs made me incredibly unwell. The staff had the difficult job of getting me better. Again!
The staff in these hospitals do an incredibly difficult job. They find a way to keep pushing you forward. Even when you are broken and spent and can't do anymore. When you want to quit. They pick you up and push you on. To the next step. The next goal. They find ways to remind you what you are fighting for. That is something money can't buy.
I hope to raise enough money to help upgrade some of the tv and radios, renew and stock up the activities quarters in both hospitals, and maybe even get new backpacks for the ambulatory eeg at quarriers.
Spend a penny or spend a pound. Every little will help.
