It seems difficult to believe so many children in our world go without basic necessities today, things that many of us take for granted, food, water, education, medical assistance, and futures filled with hope and possibilities. When we look at our own children we wish them to never suffer or be without the things that build up a fulfilled and healthy life.

If you had the power to change the direction of one child's life to give them a brighter future would you take that opportunity?

I approached several schools during my visit to South Africa and had discussions with many kids who were in their final year of schooling. One of the questions I asked these children was, "what is your plan for the future?" The answers I received not only shocked me but brought an overwhelming sadness to me.
So what could I do to assist these children see a brighter future, and offer them some glimmer of hope?

In Africa there is very little access to optical care which means many lose their fundamental right of sight. I realised that I could solve two problems with one stone.

This is where my idea FOR KIDS BY KIDS (FKBK) is now becoming a reality. I realised that I could impart the same skills I learnt in making glasses to school leaving children who are willing to learn. In turn whilst learning this skill, they would be able to assist the less fortunate children in schools, that can’t afford to buy a pair of glasses due to the costs involved

It is projected that by 2050 half the world’s population will be wearing glasses; Taking this into consideration, that clearly means the Optical industry will become a vary large market for which these children may eventually have a future in.

My goal is to purchase the necessary optical equipment to be able to fully equip the laboratory and make this a working success.
