I've raised £1000 to BLM Taunton's advancement of diversity, equality education and awareness in Somerset. Helping to support and build community relationships.

We aim to bring positive unifying action, cultivate better education, support and transform families to be better equipped at dealing with racial injustice in all its complexity and reform rural communities to recognise that by challenging implicit biases we can alter preconceived ideas of racism.
We are currently gathering information using our survey as a tool to research and investigate racism in Somerset. The factors that we are using to determine our results are looking into familial surroundings, social groups, diversity in the workplace, quality of education, experiences with police and racial incidents to name a few.
This survey will support and aid us in creating projects. Our upcoming events will be focusing on Black History Month with emphasis on making it inclusive and accessible for all. Other plans are for working with families and the school curriculum.

Last thoughts.
Discussions of the unknown are far better than the silence of passivity. Because prejudice has consequences. It is harmful. It is dangerous. It can follow you into your subconscious, it can follow into your peers subconscious.
Not all people are racist. They just decided that racism around them wasn’t a deal breaker.
It is no longer about not being racist; it is about being anti-racist.
When you debate a person about something that affects you, remember that it will take a much greater emotional toll on them than you. For you, it may feel like an academic exercise. For them, it feels like revealing their pain only to have you dismiss their experience and sometimes their humanity. The fact that you might remain calmer under these circumstances is a consequence of your privilege, not increased objectivity on your part. - Sarah Maddox
