Story

Hello! Myself and my friends Emma and Ellie have recently spent time volunteering at an orphanage in Tamil Nadu, India - Dayspring Home, run by the charity Blossom Trust. We have decided to undertake the Yorkshire Three Peak challenge on the 23rd of September. The route is 24-miles long, and includes 5,200ft (1,585m) of ascent.

Blossom Trust is responsible for the daily care of 30 children, all of whom have been affected by HIV/AIDS and/or TB in some respect – orphaned by the disease, infected themselves and then rejected by their families or can no longer be supported by infected parent(s).

Financially, the day to day running of the Home involves medical expenses, educational needs, three meals a day, clothes and social support. This requires a minimum of £9000 per year and they rely entirely on private donations.

However, they are in urgent need of a new water tank. The home relies on power for clean water from the mains, but especially during the monsoon season power cuts are regular. Without this water tank serving as a back-up water supply, and consistent electricity, the children have to walk 1.5km to collect water before school for the home.

The cost of this water tank is approximately £250. However, any extra money raised would be hugely beneficial to the childrens' lives. £8 will support a child for over a week; £230 for an entire year. Please help in any way you can!
