Story

*Update June 2020

Due to a recent change in government guidelines, we will no longer be producing protective face fields. We would like to thank all those who have donated to our project but please note that we will no longer require any further funding.

----------------------------------------------------

Over the Easter holidays our Design & Technology team have produced 65 protective face shields for NHS staff. We have done this using the school’s 3D printer, alongside home equipment and with the help of Old Bloxhamist Dr Aaron Neal.

The face shields are worn by critical health workers, over the top of normal face masks, to give an added layer of protection. The shields are already benefitting NHS health workers in Oxfordshire and local care homes, however the NHS are still in desperate need and more are needed.

The support of the local community in producing face shields for our NHS workers has been tremendous and we are very grateful for Bloxham School’s help, however there is still a desperate shortage. There is a high demand for personal protective equipment for our frontline staff,” comments Dr Stephen Haynes, Lead GP at Banbury Cross Health Centre and Bloxham School doctor.

With your help, more face shields can be created using the school’s 3D printer which will benefit many more health workers. Term starts next week and the Design and Technology team will return to full time teaching, however Old Bloxhamist parent and engineer, Sophie Breslin has kindly offered to continue the production using the school’s equipment.

The protective, quality shields cost £5 each to make and money donated will pay for materials: PETG/PLA filament, clear plastic and buttonhole elastic. Further funding will enable us to create more shields and could also pay for more equipment to produce a higher volume. We will carry on producing the shields as long as there is a need and we will keep our supporters up to date with the production.

We would be hugely grateful for your support in helping us to produce these enormously vital pieces of equipment. The photo below shows Dr Ann Sanders wearing one of our Bloxham-produced shields before a patient consultation this morning (17th April).

Thank you for your donation.
