Story

Thornton ward and Bosworth ward are both inpatient wards at the Bradgate mental health unit. The wards care for males aged 18+ who are acutely, mentally unwell and require hospital admission. Coming into hospital can be an incredibly distressing time for our patient group, causing numerous feelings and emotions to arise. A method that patients find really useful and effective during these times, is the use of therapeutic distraction and calm down equipment. This can include sensory equipment, exercise equipment, punch bags etc, the list goes on!

This year both wards are coming together as one team to take part in the Leicester NHS Cup on Saturday 21st July 2018. Our team will consist of ward managers, nurses, health care support workers and doctors! We will be competing against various teams in both NHS trusts in Leicester - LPT and UHL.

Firstly, our strong team aims to take part competitively and do the best we can in the games! But most importantly, we hope to raise £250 that we can put towards purchasing some of the equipment mentioned above. We have seen the benefit that this type of method of de-escalation has on patient recovery and experience, therefore we need your help to make it happen!
