Story
Children are not taught the importance of financial literacy and its practicalities, this concerning factor has students leaving schools with no to little financial education, not knowing how to save and just an overall lake of knowledge when it comes to having a relationship with money. Teachers are overloaded with work and do not have the time to explore this area in depth. I produced a survey and 100% said they wished they had financial education whilst in school as it would have equipped them for the trials to come. A recent OECD report found that the UK is below average when it comes to teaching on this subject. So, what I’ve created is an avenue for kids to put their maths skills into practical use which will aid them in this essential life skill they’d need.
What inspired me to write this book was my own personal experience with money or lake of, having very little money and not being taught the art/skill of money management really caused me to be extreme in my savings ones earning. My mind set was If I don’t spend it, I’ll always have it. The impact of not having money manifested in the fear of losing It once assessable to it, which is of cause unhealthy. I saw a gap in the market for this and decided to pursue this route with a solution as there is an urgent need for it. I chose the age group 8-10 as this is the earliest age, they are taught their decimals, they’d have 2/3 years before secondary school, it’ll be best to equip them with money knowledge for when they start getting pocket money, knowing how to budget that weekly will get them in the habit of great money discipline.
