Raising money for Bobby's Battle Fund
A couple of years ago Dave’s brother, Robert, was diagnosed with a rare and fast-growing brain tumour. He underwent surgery and radiotherapy and for some time everything was going as well as it could.
Unfortunately, Bobby’s brain tumour returned – for which he’s recently undergone a second surgery. He's also developed hearing, sight, and balance problems. On top of all this, he’s currently going through chemotherapy to try and contain the tumour.
Bobby lives down in Braintree, Essex with his wife Najette and two children – Harrison who is three and Teagan who is only few month old.
Najette is doing an amazing job. But with a three-year-old and a new born, you can imagine her hands are very full. And it’s only natural that as Bobby’s family, we would like to be there to help and support as much as possible too.
Being down there means we can help with the kids, take Bobby to various hospital appointments, or simply be a shoulder to lean on during those not so good days.
However, the trips down there don’t come cheap. Najette and Bobby have a two-bedroom house, and with four of them in there already it’s a squeeze to fit anyone else in.
When family members go down, we're spending money on things like fuel, food and accommodation for a week or so at a time. And it all adds up. Dave’s parents are currently eating into their savings to fund the regular visits, but this won’t last too much longer.
We therefore thought it would be a good idea to set up Bobby's Battle Fund.
Not only will the fund mean family members can go down as much as possible to help out without having to worry about money, but it will also provide general support to Bobby, Najette, Harrison and Teagan as well.
A weekend of fundraising
Thanks to the support of several amazing people, on the weekend commencing Friday 1 October we've managed to put together a whole weekend of fundraising events:
Sacred Heart's Run for Robert
On the afternoon of Friday 1 October, Sacred Heart RC Primary School are holding their own sponsored run. Pupils will be attempting to run as many laps as they can around their school track.
Sponsored throw at the Dojo
On Saturday 2 October at 10:00 am there's a sponsored Judo throw taking place at the Kanokwai Budo Renmei Dojo in Colne.
Park Run Marathon
On Sunday 3 October at 10:30 am I'll be taking place in what we're calling the Pendle Park Run Marathon – which will be a total of 16 laps of the Pendle Park Run loop.
We'd love it if you could come down and say hello, and even run a lap or two if you want to get involved! We'll be by the pitches at the top of Alkincoates Park/Colne Rugby Club. We're going to have a gazebo set up, with some refreshments, music and what not.
It should be a great end to an amazing weekend of fundraising!
More to come...
Make sure you keep an eye out on social media for lots of other fundraising events from the McCaigues and friends in the near future too. We’re hoping to do things like quiz nights, and we might even get Dave to partake in a triathlon!
Thanks for all your support.
