Story
In 2018, I completed the #WalkForDad, in memory of my late Father who passed away last year after a 7 year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. The grueling 3 day walk took more out of me than I could ever have imagined, beginning at Lincoln Castle, and finally finishing at Castle Hill, Huddersfield.
Although it was a tough experience, it was also life changing for me, not only did the training and fitness help in the build up help me deal with grief and loss but the actual walk gave me a sense of huge satisfaction, raising £1500 for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis, that made me realise this was something that I didn't just want to be a one time thing.
And that's how we end up where we are today. The Walk For Bodyslams To Cancer 2019. (A catchier title to come!)
Bodyslams to Cancer is an annual event run by Fight Factory Wrestling UK, and their owners Hayden and Becca, with the first show taking place in 2014, in memory of Hayden's Mum, Dee, who sadly passed away after her battle with cancer. Each year since they have raised an amazing amount of money for local Lincoln charities and individuals, and this year they are going back to where it all began... St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice.
This July, I will be continuing the walk that I began last year, beginning at Castle Hill, Huddersfield, and finishing 4 days later at Blackpool Tower.
My personal reasons for wanting to do this stem to my friendship with Becca and Hayden, I met them not long after their first Bodyslams to Cancer event as I work for the local radio station and they were doing promotional interviews, I was drawn into their story, their commitment to not only their brand, their students but also the charities they support. Anyone who has met them knows they are kind people, who want to use their position and company for good causes.
All money raised from this charity walk will be put into the Bodyslams to Cancer 2019 pot when the event takes place in October and hopefully it'll be a nice bonus to their overall fundraising. Let's raise more money than ever before for a wonderful local cause.
Right, time to get the trainers out of the cupboard and start that training again!
For all updates, keep an eye on this page and social media platforms. This is where I will announce dates for the walk and any updates.
