I am currently studying BENG (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering and this is something I am extremely interested in as it allows me to see/learn more about aircrafts. I previously lived in a small town located near an airport at a young age and have been fascinated about aircrafts ever since. One of my many favourites aircraft is the Atlas Impala Macchi MB-326. I managed to obtain a Level 1 Engineering certificate at Southampton City College in 2014 and excel at the college. I was nominated as one of three Young Student of the Year and won the Gold Medal for Achievement for my efforts and endeavour. I continued to Level 2 Engineering in 2014 and won a merit. I was one of two students in my year to be highly commended for my overall performance as well as winning the Capita Engineering Achievements Award. My attendance at City College was assessed as 100%. My motivation throughout the past four years has been the promise of studying for a BEng (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering, because it is both theoretical and practical, with opportunities to analyse and learn how an aircraft works. This has given me a good grounding in all aerospace-related subjects and equip me for a career as a pilot. Outside of my studies, I work freelance doing gardening, construction, deliveries, car mechanics and usual handyman jobs over the last 5 years. These different jobs have improved my communication skills, time management and technical skills which are key in various jobs. My customers regard me as hard working, reliable, capable and versatile, all qualities I feel I can transfer to my future career as a pilot. I love fixing electronic gadgets and finding uses for random items of household ephemera to make useful things. My reading is mainly manuals and ‘how to’ books and I watch many ‘how to’ videos on YouTube to learn which helps me to engage improve my methodologies. At Southampton City College, I was BME Officer for the Student Union. If I had to list my characteristics, always being positive would be near the top, as would my ability to communicate complicated messages so that they are easily understood. I am driven, determined and ambitious, in everything I do. I am able to speak 3 languages Zulu, Sesotho, and English. My studies have allowed me to join a multicultural academic community and to acquire the specialist knowledge needed for a career as a pilot.
