Story

Gizmo recently had surgery for a torn cruciate ligament in his right back leg. I have him insured on a lifetime policy with unlimited conditions per year with a limit of £2,000 per condition. I have to pay £99 excess and also 20% of the final bill as he is over 8yrs old. The insurance company deduct the excess and the 20% from the £2,000 and whats left pays some of the bill but falls short .The pre-op appointments, scans, xrays and ultrasounds, the surgery, the post op medications xrays and emergency appointments and extra medication he has needed and still needs, plus hydrotherapy, is more than double the insured limit and around £4,500.

Gizmo has a heart condition and therefore can’t be exercised to build up the muscle that has wasted due to the condition and the surgery. The vet has recommended hydrotherapy which will build that muscle back up again. I cannot even consider that as I just don’t have the money. If he doesn’t have hydrotherapy there is a higher risk of his other cruciate going, something which the vet has said is very likely to happen sooner or later. So I am asking for your help. I am at my wits end to know how to pay for all this as I am retired and living on a very limited income.

Dear pals Gizmo has had a rough time since the operation. Pain management wasnt the best, but at last its under control and he's more comfy. Muvver sat up 2 nights to watch over him & had several trips to vet to get meds increased. Had his post op check today & all went well I'm pleased to say. Already beginning to bear weight on leg which is amazing. He's a challenge to give meds to but prefers Brussels low fat pate' from ASDA bol He has his stitches out on 17th Nov. Thank you dear friends for sharing this journey with us. Love you all lots! x

Gizmo will be coming home at 12.30 today. He had a good night & managed to eat during the night. He is toe touching the ground with his 'bad' foot which is a good sign. He had to have a metal plate in his knee, plus a tiny metal screw in the meniscus, the grizzle disc between the 2 leg bones. I will update & take pics when he's home. I know this has been a terrific expense as the insurance only covers a fraction of the cost, but the alternative wasn't acceptable. He deserved a chance to live pain free & happy. Thank you all for helping xxx

My friends, with all the worry of Gizmo, I didnt check the limit on his insurance, which is only £2,000 per condition and the operation on it's own is almost double that, plus the percentage I have to pay due to his age and the excess, this is becoming a nightmare.. So I am increasing this target by at least £1,000 to help pay for it There's so much small print in these insurance policies, if you have pet insurance, please make sure you read all of it. Forewarned is forarmed as they say. Please share this page if you can. Thank you.
