Boo Boo was born on the 28th May 2017. We noticed from an early stage that there was something very wrong with her legs and took her straight to the vet. After extensive tests the vet diagnosed a rare growth disorder that had caused both her legs, and feet, to become twisted and distorted.

The decision was taken to try and encourage her legs to straighten using thickly padded splints. It will be a very long process but is a better option than surgery, which is very risky with no guarantee of success. The splints are helping her to walk and bounce around her specially adapted pen, and she uses her wings to balance herself. Sometimes, when the weather is good enough, she can go out in the garden to play, which she loves. It is too risky to allow her to fly at this stage as her legs, or landing gear, isn't strong enough to support her and she might hurt herself, or worse, on landing. The vet clipped off a few feathers on one wing, which is entirely painless, but just stops her getting lift off!

She lives in a large stable with a thick bed of straw so she doesn't hurt herself if she topples over, and walls of hay bales, again to keep her safe. She has the odd mishap, but thankfully suffers nothing worse than the odd broken feather, which will grow back when she next moults.She has lots of soft toys which she loves to play with - dragging them around, bouncing on them, and she snuggles up to them when she sleeps. She is very content, and chirps happily when we go up to see her.

Our initial long term aim is to get her legs strong enough to allow her to be able to fly safely around her pen - but this will be a very long process taking many months.

She is quite a celebrity now, having appeared on local BBC and ITV programmes, local and national newspapers and she went viral on social media.
