Weʼre raising £2,956 to repair the damaged roof of our community library in Uganda before the rainy season

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

The Book Fairies have supported the KDCO community library in Uganda since very early in our history, summer 2017. We started regularly providing books to the library, which are then taken out to local schools before being returned and sent out again. Since later in 2017 we have supported the library by supporting the employment of a live-in library assistant. During this latest crisis of the pandemic, the library has stayed essential to this community, providing education around how to stay safe. They have started to safely re-open but have found the cracks in the ceiling to have worsened. The roof needs to be mended before the rain comes in mid-October, and the community have already spoken with local builders and other traders to get this quote. They have now reached out to see if we can help them.

100% of your donations (minus JustGiving fees) will be sent directly to the people on the ground in Uganda for them to arrange the repair of the roof.

A big THANK YOU from our community library in Uganda! They have completed their work on the new roof in time for the rainy season thanks to donations from book fairies around the world 🤗 We are reopening fundraising however because the fees for JustGiving were far higher than expected - our library is short £900 as a result. We are going to ask book fairies to dig deep once again to close this gap! This funding is for the new computers - to help the children and adults who are doing home studying as a result of schools remaining closed.

The Book Fairy in Chief

London, UK

The Book Fairy in Chief runs The Book Fairies from London, UK. While she would normally encourage fairies to put stickers on books and hide them in public, her approach to Uganda is different. We send books and assistance to help them share the love of reading in their community.
