Weʼre raising £4,000 to help our community library in Lwengo prepare the land to build a new centre. They have been granted some land from the Ugandan government!
Don't have time to donate right now?
The Book Fairies have supported the KCDO community library in Uganda since very early in our history, summer 2017. We started regularly providing books to the library, which are then taken out to local schools before being returned and sent out again. Since later in 2017 we have supported the library by supporting the employment of a live-in library assistant.
During the pandemic, this little community library has been a lifeline for the local schools and households, who relied on the library for access to information via the internet and books, as well as using it as a meeting place for adult learning and other social groups. They have made such an impact that the government of Uganda took notice and recognised they had vastly outgrown their current set up.
The KCDO community have applied for, and been granted, land a few miles away from their current community library structure! They will soon start to flatten out the land, put in water and energy lines, build foundations and plan for a brand new, much larger library that hundreds more people in the community can benefit from. They will be sourcing local material, much of which is reused or recycled, and hiring work people from within the community. While the land has been granted to them, this all takes money and they have again reached out to The Book Fairies to see if we can once again help!
We want to thank our fairy community for helping with our last round of fundraising, which lead to the purchase of new laptops and a photocopier, all of which have been used extensively throughout the last year. We need your help again, please spare whatever you can!
100% of your donations (minus the JustGiving fee!!!) will be sent directly to the people on the ground in Uganda.

Hello all! I'm so excited to share this update from our library building in Uganda. We love hearing updates and I'm sure you'll enjoy seeing the building that is now underway thanks to everyone's donations and a Christmas gifted donation from The Book Fairies! As you can see, our fundraising is still open, and with this type of project it potentially will be for quite a while, so please, if you can spare anything to help our community to build their new library and social space then please do, no donation is too small!
