Story

Who we are

Book Refuge aims to make literature more accessible to those who have been made homeless. We do this by opening mini-libraries in homeless shelters and services, as well as partnering with charities and organisations in the sector to reach as many of homeless people as possible.

We believe that books are a gateway to making those who have been made homeless feel more human and more a part of society. By giving them access to books, we believe that they are presented with an opportunity to engage their minds in something apart from the difficulties that they face on a regular basis.

Why we are raising money

The project is run entirely on a volunteer basis by the founder, Priyanka Mogul, who runs it alongside her full time job and incurs any costs associated with running the project.

At present, our biggest costs include packaging for books (cardboard boxes) and delivery costs. Occasionally, there is also a cost involved for storing books and picking them up from donors and/or storage points.

We are always on the lookout for volunteer drivers who are willing to pick up and drop off books to homeless shelters. However, this has been hard to find. We are, therefore, turning to the public to ask for whatever you can give to ensure that this project can keep running. Every little bit helps!

What you get

Every donor will get a special mention on our website (with your permission) and regular updates each time we deliver boxes of books to a service (if you want them).

We recognise that we are nothing without the support of people like yourself, and want to ensure that we reward each person who helps keep Book Refuge alive.

If you have any questions about the project, feel free to get in touch at bookrefugeuk@gmail.com.
