I'm raising £1,000 for Woodlands Secondary School.

Did you know that 1 in 3 children, over the age of 9, no longer read for pleasure? I am on a mission to change this statistic and fast!

Reading for pleasure in the UK is at a 20 year LOW! In 2025, ONLY 32.7% of young people read in their free time. Daily reading has fallen to 18.7%

It's time for change! Usborne’s Community Book Pledge is a nationwide initiative to help schools and nurseries across the UK and Europe benefit from more books, boosting literacy levels through encouraging reading for pleasure. With the help of local businesses, thousands of schools across the UK and Europe have been able to fill their libraries and classroom bookshelves and raise a new generation of confident and engaged readers and we would love your support to do the same for our school.

With the help of local business and personal donations, we are aiming to collect £1000 in donations for the school, and Usborne will then generously provide an additional £600 worth of free books on top of this. This money will allow us to completely transform our school’s reading resources and to allow all children to have access to a wide variety of high-quality fiction and non-fiction books to choose from and enjoy.
