Story

Marystowe Church is being decorated with something unusual. Local people are decorating underwear and entering it in a competition in the local Parish Church. The flouncier and glitterier the better!

We are putting washing lines around the Church and will display all undies for judging by the Vicar. We will have 4 classes 0-6, 7-11, 12 -17 and adults.

Saturday 18th February will be the grand viewing in the Church, and Saturday evening the adjoining Church Hall - aka The Virgin Arms, pop up community pub - will be open for prize giving. The weekend will be rounded off with a service on Sunday morning for reflection and celebration.

Fear not the Parochial Church Council have not lost the plot…all this frivolity (and dubious taste) is to raise funds for the Primrose Foundation and Chestnut Appeal - the local charities linked to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for supporting sufferers and their families (and raising awareness) of Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer.

We are hoping to spread the event as widely as possible - to raise funds and increase awareness of the disease and the importance of checking yourself regularly to have the greatest chance of successful treatment. If one person gets this message all the effort will be worthwhile. In 2018 a lump the size of a little broad bean was removed and in January the Primrose unit at Derriford confirmed I am all clear…..so it is a cause very close to my heart - my left breast in fact….
